Introducing Plateful
Plateful is an interactive learning system designed to foster healthy eating habits and nutrition literacy in children through fun, engaging tools. Here’s how Plateful works:
- Easy-to-Use App: Our app is so simple that even small children can navigate it, making mealtimes light and manageable for parents. It’s packed with fun, educational content that teaches children about food and health.
- Animated Educational Learning Modules: Each video takes kids on a journey from “seed to body system,” helping them understand every aspect of their food. They’ll learn about:
- Farming and Cultures: How and where food is grown and different cultural food practices.
- Supply Chain: How food travels from farms to their plate.
- Body Systems: How foods impact their bodies—fueling growth, energy, and health.
- Fun Facts: History, origin, fun facts to expand nutrition literacy
- After each module, kids can take a fun quiz to check their knowledge and earn coins for correct answers, which they can use in the app for fun experiences like avatar building!
- SMART Plate: Our SMART plate uses light and sound to make healthy eating fun. It responds in real-time to encourage balanced choices, guiding children to prioritize nutrient-dense foods. For example:
- If vegetables are untouched, the plate’s vegetable section lights up, plays audio from our learning modules to reinforce healthy choices.
- When kids eat their vegetables, the plate rewards them with coins for in-app experiences, motivating positive eating behaviors.
- Designed to expand their palate and encourage food exploration, providing you a fun way to introduce new foods.
Together, the smart plate and app create a playful, enriching mealtime experience aimed at fostering lifelong healthy habits.
Seeking pilot partners. What to expect in Pilot Testing and Details
We’d love for you to be among the first to experience Plateful! Here’s what testing would involve:
- Illinois Residents: You’ll have the chance to explore the Plateful smart plate in person, gaining firsthand experience of its full functionality.
- Non-Illinois Residents: While logistics for testing the physical plate are in the works, you can still explore our app and learning modules from anywhere. If you’re interested in testing the smart plate in the future, let us know—we’re aiming to make it accessible!
- What's involved: You'll be assigned a group, you'll receive access to either our app and learning modules or our app, learning modules and our SMART plate. Watch the learning module and have a snack on our plate and simply fill out questionnaires. Explore cutting edge technology and an alternate treatment strategy.
